April 24, 2015 – An international meeting of the Salesian Planning and Development Offices (PDOs) of 36 Countries in Africa, Pacific and Caribbean was held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from April 21st till the 24th within the framework of the project Co-partners in Development which is co-founded by the European Union and implemented by VIS in partnership with the Salesians of Don Bosco. The project aims at the empowerment of the capacities of the PDOs and their staff and to facilitate the development of internal and external partnerships, directed to the actors of development in the area of education, technical and vocational training to enhance the Salesian strategies to reach vulnerable youths in the mentioned countries.
Among the main objectives of the meeting in Addis Ababa:
- Introduce and share the results of the first-year activities and plan for the second one;
- Share the annual development planning for each Salesian office, and the results previous capacity building interventions;
- Present a training calendar and related topics within the offer to PDOs for 2015;
- Update participants on the latest developments of “Bosco Tech Africa “, the network of Salesian TVET centres in the African Region – with a focus on Madagascar best practices – and define possible cooperation with the network of PDOs.

After four intense working days in Ethiopia, each office back home will follow up on their specific capacity development paths with the aim of improving current interventions directed to vulnerable youths. Training courses to PDO’s members of staff will start in June and they will cover various areas; among others: strategic planning, development and cooperation, monitoring and evaluation, financial management, communication.
The final round table saw the presence of: don Fabio Attard – counselor general of the Salesians of Don Bosco for the Youth Pastoral who presented the experience of Bosco Tech Africa, Mr. Ivan Toscano – project coordinator of “Co-partners in development” presenting the VIS strategy for TVET projects and Mr. Alwoye Ygrem Alemu – representing the Federal TVET Agency of the ethiopian government.
